T20: Nepal defeats Kuwait to keep U-19 World Cup hopes alive

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Kuwait making 165 runs in their fourth match of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, held in the UAE.

Nepal’s captain, Puja Mahato, delivered a spectacular all-round performance to guide her team to a resounding win.

Chasing a daunting target of 214 runs, Kuwait was bowled out for just 48 runs.

Mahato starred with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 8 runs in 4 overs, including a maiden.

Rachana Kumari and Simana KC also impressed with the ball, each picking up two wickets.

Kuwait’s Zifa Jilani top-scored with 36 runs, but no other batter reached double figures.

Earlier, Nepal batted first at The Sevens ground in Dubai and posted a commanding total of 213/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

Captain Puja Mahato played a match-defining knock, scoring 130 runs off 69 balls, which included 17 fours.

She shared a 157-run partnership for the third wicket with Soni Pakhrin, who remained unbeaten on 43 runs from 33 balls. Meanwhile, Sabitri Dhami contributed 11 runs, while San Prabin added 6.

With four wins from five matches, Nepal’s only defeat in the tournament came against the UAE.

Nepal will now play their final match of the qualifiers against UAE on Wednesday.

The four-team qualifying tournament follows a double round-robin format, with the top-ranked team securing a spot in the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
