POKHARA: Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), currently in Kaski Police custody, is set to be taken to Rupandehi on Tuesday to take his statement.

Lamichhane has been detained for 24 days under investigation for the misappropriation of cooperative funds.

On Sunday, the Kaski District Court authorized an additional 13 days of detention.

The police, who are investigating the embezzlement of funds from the Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, were unable to complete their investigation there.

As a result, the Rupandehi police have arranged to bring him in for questioning regarding the Supreme Cooperative of Rupandehi. They have received permission from the Rupandehi court for this transfer.

The Kaski police have been instructed to send Lamichhane for cooperative fraud and organized crime.

According to sources in Rupandehi police, plans were initially made to transport him by plane to Bhairahawa on Monday.

However, due to scheduling issues with flights, the transfer has been rescheduled for Tuesday.

While the RSP has been informed of the police’s plans, no official confirmation has been issued yet.

Rupandehi Police Chief Ranjit Singh Rathore stated that arrangements were made for Lamichhane’s transport on Monday evening, but the absence of flights from Pokhara necessitated the delay until Tuesday.

An informal discussion has also taken place among district security officials to address potential protests by cooperative victims and RSP supporters during Lamichhane’s arrival.

The Rupandehi District Court has authorized the arrest of 12 individuals, including Lamichhane and GB Rai, in connection with the investigation into the alleged misappropriation of 19.6 million rupees from the Supreme Cooperative based in Butwal.

The Special Parliamentary Investigation Committee report indicates that Rs 142.9 million flowed to the Gorkha Media Network through various intermediaries.

Alongside Lamichhane, former DIG Chabilal Joshi, the vice president of Gorkha Media Network, remains in Kaski police custody. Banjade has already been brought to Rupandehi to provide a statement.
