KATHMANDU: The ruling party, CPN- UML, has suspended Lila Ballav Adhikari from all party positions following his resignation as Koshi Province’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Law amid human trafficking allegations.

On Saturday, UML’s Koshi Provincial Committee suspended Adhikari, who is also a member of the party’s National Convention Representatives Council, stripping him of all party responsibilities.

UML Koshi President Ghanshyam Khatiwada stated that Adhikari, a Provincial Assembly member elected from Morang-2 (B), would remain suspended from all levels of the party until the allegations are resolved. He also urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

Adhikari recently traveled to Japan under dubious circumstances, allegedly using fake identification documents to bring other individuals along. The police are currently investigating his involvement in human trafficking, and there has been considerable public and internal party pressure for UML to take disciplinary action.
