Finance Minister returns from World Bank and IMF annual meetings



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel returned to Nepal today after attending the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held in the United States. Secretary (Revenue) Dinesh Kumar Ghimire welcomed Minister Paudel at Tribhuvan International Airport.

During the meetings, Minister Paudel urged the international community to make global financial mechanisms for climate finance more accessible and efficient.

He also called on development partners and the global community to be responsible and sensitive regarding climate justice and requested the effective operation of the Loss and Damage Compensation Fund established for climate justice.

Minister Paudel mentioned that Nepal’s priorities were met with a positive response from the international community.

While in the U.S., Paudel held individual meetings with high-ranking officials from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and International Finance Corporation. He also engaged in bilateral and multilateral discussions.

Minister Paudel, who departed for the U.S. on October 21, also addressed an event organized by the Nepalis Embassy and met with representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Nepali community, and other stakeholders.
