KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has directed parliamentary committees to submit all pending bills in the upcoming Parliament session.

The instruction was issued during a meeting held at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, where the chairpersons of various parliamentary committees, along with the chief whips and whips of major political parties, were present.

During the meeting, Speaker Ghimire expressed concern over the status of bills pending in different committees and stressed the importance of moving them forward.

Abdul Khan, chair of the Industry, Commerce, Labor, and Consumer Welfare Committee said the committee didn’t meet the quorum for the meeting as most of its members had travelled to their home districts for the holidays.

The meeting, convened by Speaker Ghimire, aimed to address potential concerns over a lack of agenda in the forthcoming session. To prevent such a scenario, Ghimire called on committee chairpersons to finalize pending bills and prepare them for discussion.

Among the attendees were prominent party leaders including UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Maoist Center Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, Rashtriya Swatantra Party Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, and Rashtriya Prajatantra Party Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi.
