Kushmanda Devi being worshiped today on fourth day of Navaratri

On the fourth day of Navaratri, Kushmanda Devi, the fourth of the nine Durgas, is being worshiped in the Dashainghar, or puja room today.

Every year, on Ashwin Shukla Chaturthi— the fourth day of Durgapaksha— devotees engage in a traditional ritual to honor Goddess Kushmanda.

The name “Kushmanda” is derived from the spiritual, metaphysical, and supernatural energies she embodies, collectively referred to as “Kushma.”

Disaster-induced death toll climbs to 244

The number of people who lost their lives in the recent late monsoon-induced disaster has reached 244.

Furthermore, 19 are still reported missing in the floods and landslides that occurred in the country last week.

A total of 179 people were injured in the disaster-induced incidents, said Rishiram Tiwari, spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Raut appointed SC Chief Justice

President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Supreme Court judge Prakashmansingh Raut as the Chief Justice today.

According to a statement from the President’s Office, the appointment follows the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

The President appointed the senior-most justice of the Supreme Court Raut as the Chief Justice of Nepal on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council and in accordance with Article 129 of the Constitution of Nepal.

77, including one foreign national, killed in disaster in Kavre

The recent flash floods in the district have resulted in the deaths of 77 individuals, including one foreign national, while 75 others were injured.

The District Police Office reports that five people remain missing since the disaster occurred a week ago.

Among the deceased are 33 women, 28 men, nine minor boys, and seven minor girls.

Two-way traffic resumes via Daunne

The two-way traffic has been resumed in Daunne from today.

The transport service was disrupted after a section of the East-West highway at Daunne sunk due to inundation caused by incessant rainfall.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer Resham Bohara of the District Police Office said that after repairing a section of the road in Khursani Khola in Bardghat Municipality-4 Daunne at 5:30 pm last Friday, the two way traffic has been resumed from 11 am today.

Prachanda defends Ravi Lamichhane, criticizes government’s disaster response

Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, the chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), has claimed that Ravi Lamichhane, the chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is innocent in the cooperative fraud case.

Speaking at a press conference held at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Sunday, Prachanda stated that Lamichhane has been unfairly portrayed in the cooperative fraud investigation report.

Meanwhile, Prachanda mentioned that the government could investigate if necessary, regarding the accusations linked to the Gorkha Media Network that Lamichhane is involved in.

Inquiry committee against Maha Prasad formed on Janardan’s proposal voided

The government has voided the inquiry committee that was formed to probe Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

Government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung made this decision of the Council of Ministers taken on October 4, public on Sunday.

The committee had originally been formed on April 7, 2022, based on a decision by then Finance Minister Janardan Sharma to investigate  against Governor Adhikari. However, the current government, led by KP Sharma Oli, overturned the decision three years later.

25 parties registered for local by-elections

A total of 25 political parties have registered for the upcoming local by-elections, scheduled for Mangsir 16.

According to the Election Commission, the registration process was open from Ashwin 10 to 16, during which 25 parties submitted their applications.
