KATHMANDU: More than 800,000 foreign tourists visited Nepal in the first nine months of 2024.
According to the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 816,339 tourists visited Nepal from January to September this year.
Maniraj Lamichhane, Director at the NTB, said that overall tourist arrivals have increased by six percent compared to 2023 and four percent compared to 2019.
However, there was a decline in Indian tourist arrivals in September compared to August, while the number of tourists from China saw an increase.
This drop in Indian tourists is likely attributed to the monsoon season.
Lamichhane noted a significant rise in visitors from American and European countries.
In September, 22,984 tourists from India visited, down from 25,832 in August. Conversely, tourist arrivals from China rose, with 8,042 tourists in September compared to 6,614 in August.
From the U.S., 10,084 tourists entered Nepal in August, while 5,000 arrived in September.
Additionally, Sri Lankan tourist arrivals increased slightly, with 4,915 in September and 4,851 in August.
The board recorded 72,719 tourist arrivals in August alone. Notably, September 2023 saw 91,012 tourists visiting Nepal, compared to just 58,314 during the same period in 2022.
