PM Oli holds courtesy meeting with US President Biden
Prime Minister KP Oli held a courtsey meeting with US President Joe Biden during his visit to New York for the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations.
The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral forums, focusing on expanding trade, investment, tourism, and cultural relations.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Oli’s spouse Radhika Shakya.
Project Chief Dhurba Kumar Jha shared that road from Jomsom to Korala would be gravelled after completion of the upgrading task of Charang-Chhoser section.
CJ Shrestha recommends SC judges before retirement
Chief Justice (CJ) Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, who is set to retire, has recommended names of two judges for appointment to the Supreme Court (SC).
With just a week left in his tenure, Shrestha secured the endorsement of two Justices from the High Court during a Judicial Council meeting held on Friday.
The Council recommended the names of Nripadhwaj Niraula and Nitya Nanda Pandey for Supreme Court judges.
Nepal braces for heavy rain; 20 districts on high alert
Heavy rain is forecasted over the next three days, prompting the Flood Forecasting Division to issue a cautionary advisory.
As rainfall increases, the flow of various rivers across the country is expected to rise significantly.
The Division has identified several rivers categorized as medium, high, and very high risk.
Night bus operations banned in 56 districts for tonight and tomorrow
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has imposed a ban on night bus operations in 56 districts for tonight and tomorrow night.
The central command post for monsoon preparedness and response has decided not to allow night buses to ply on September 27 and 28 due to the heightened risk of disaster incidents.
Heavy to very heavy monsoon rainfall is expected from Thursday to Sunday, prompting the authority to issue several precautions.
Foreign Affairs Minister underscores collaboration to address global problems
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana has said that Nepal is committed to working in keeping with the vision of the Asian Collaborative Dialogue for promoting happiness and peace, and prosperity in the Asian nations.
Minister Rana, who is in the Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister KP Oli to the 79th United Nations General Assembly, said this while addressing the Ministerial Meeting.
“We have been facing challenges due to climate change which we had never come across in the past in our common home- the Earth. This is an issue that needs to be immediately addressed,” she said.
Domestic flights suspended due to continuous rain
Domestic flights from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) remained suspended due to ongoing heavy rain today.
Since early morning, poor weather conditions disrupted air travel to various destinations.
According to Tribhuvan International Airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, a few flights to Dhangadi, Bhairahawa, and Janakpur operated today, but most flights were canceled.
Bagmati and Bishnumati rivers in Kathmandu pose flood risks
Continuous rain over the past two days has resulted in flooding in the rivers of Kathmandu.
The riverbanks in areas such as Shivapuri, Sundarijal, and Godavari have been severely affected.
According to the Weather Forecast Division, the water levels in the Bagmati River have surpassed danger levels, particularly in Khokana, Gaurighat, and Balkhu.
Narayangadh-Muglin road section to remain closed during night
The Narayangadh-Muglin road section will remain closed during the night time in view of the possible risk posed by incessant rains.
As per the directives of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the road section has been closed during the night due to the possibility of landslides after incessant rain.
Chief of the District Police Office, Bhaveshwor Rimal said the vehicular movement on the road section has been banned for today and tomorrow.
