Hearing Committee disapproves nomination of Bhattarai for ambassadorial appointment

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee, the Federal Parliament, on Tuesday disapproved the recommendation of Ram Krishna Bhattarai for an ambassadorial appointment.

He was proposed by the government as ambassador to Sri Lanka.

When the Committee was seeking the Bachelor’s degree certificate of the nominee to find him academically eligible for the appointment, the proposed candidate himself applied for the withdrawal of the recommendation today itself.

The nomination was unaccepted by the meeting unanimously.

According to Committee member Shyam Ghimire, based on the application from the proposed candidate, the recommendation was disapproved.

In the application, he stated that he was unable to furnish the documents as demanded by the Committee.

The Committee has directed the government to follow the principle of inclusion while making recommendations for political appointments.

Similarly, the government has been asked to consider the academic qualifications and conduct of individuals before deciding on the nominations.

As per the directives regarding the appointment of an ambassador, at least the completion of the Bachelor’s degree is required to be academically eligible for the appointment.

The names of 16 people who were proposed as ambassadors for various countries along with Bhattarai have been already endorsed by the Committee.
