SC denies interim order to release Durga Prasai

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has declined to grant interim order to release Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur.

During a hearing on the habeas corpus writ filed by Prasai’s son, Nirajan Prasai, Judge Prakashman Singh Raut issued a show cause order but did not order his release.

Nirajan Prasai alleged that his father was being held illegally and sought an immediate release order.

Durga Prasai was arrested last Sunday at his residence in Bhaktapur following a complaint of cybercrime filed by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central member Tika Sangraula (Jwala) and others.

The Kathmandu District Court subsequently authorized his detention for three days to facilitate an investigation.

On Monday, the Cyber Bureau took Prasai from Bir Hospital to obtain his statement, where he is reportedly staying due to health concerns.
