LAMJUNG: The onset of the tourist season has brought a surge in trekkers along the Annapurna trekking route, with daily arrivals exceeding 150.
As the second most popular trekking route in Nepal, after the Khumbu region, the Annapurna route is now seeing a vibrant influx of visitors.
Bhupendra Gurung, chief of the Dharapani-based Tourist Information Centre at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Manang district, confirmed that daily trekker numbers have risen significantly since the season began.
Local hoteliers are benefiting from the uptick in tourism, experiencing improved economic activity due to higher occupancy rates.
So far in 2024, 12,355 trekkers have explored the route, compared to 10,897 during the same period last year.
Gurung noted that French nationals represent the largest group of visitors, followed by travelers from Israel, Germany, and India.
Trekkers are drawn to the stunning views of the Himalayas and the hilly terrain, with many journeying from Mustang to Pokhara via the Thorong La Pass.
