KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said the role of science and technology sector was crucial to fulfill national aspiration of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’.

In a message today on the occasion of the 12th National Science Day, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the need of reviving our own tradition of scientific discovery in the world of science.

He mentioned, “Our educational system was unique and science-promoting in ancient period, but we failed to develop it in our own way.”

The government has accepted science and technology as the backbone to implement the development construction activities in an expedited manner, stressed PM Oli.

“The government has a policy of accepting the science and technology education as a carrier of progress. Strengthening and empowering existing structures of science and technology sector is equally necessary,” he stated.

The government, PM Oli said, has a long-term policy to form a high-level commission to prepare a draft for restructuring such organisations and implement it.

Stating that the government has allocated budget for different programmes like innovation fund and start-up to promote research and entrepreneurship as well as youth centric programmes, PM Oli pointed out the need to be focused on developing fact-based policy and programmes using science and technology.
