Dengue cases on the rise in Parbat

PARBAT: Dengue cases have surged sharply in Parbat district, with health officials attributing the rise to insufficient precautions against mosquito bites.

As of now, 650 dengue cases have been confirmed this season in Parbat, according to Dr. Hemanta Bastola, Chief Medical Superintendent of Parbat Hospital. Over 500 of these cases are from the district headquarters in Kushma.

Dr. Bastola noted that the hospital, which has 60 beds, is currently at full capacity due to the influx of dengue patients.

There has been one reported death from dengue fever in the district this year.

Yam Prasad Sharma, Chief of the Health Section of Kushma Municipality, suggested that the actual number of dengue cases could be higher than official figures, as many patients may be resting at home rather than seeking hospital care.

Doctors have indicated that critical dengue cases are marked by a drop in white blood cell count, though most cases are managed with Cetamol tablets. Common symptoms include high fever, headache, body ache, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Dengue fever was first detected in Nepal in 2004, and the incidence has been increasing since then. Originally more common in the Terai-Madhes region, the disease is now also being increasingly reported in mountainous areas.
