NEPSE declines by 55 points with turnover at 9.5 billion

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Monday experienced a decline of 55.86 points, closing at 2,646.03 points, a decrease of 2.06 percent.

The total turnover for the day was Rs. 9.5 billion, with 1,010,048 shares traded.

The market initially opened with a modest increase of 0.66 points during the pre-open session and saw a brief rise shortly after.

However, the momentum was short-lived as a larger number of investors opted to wait and watch, allowing sellers to dominate.

This led to a continuous decline throughout the day. Despite efforts to stabilize the market until 2:30 pm, NEPSE ended the day with significant losses.

Out of 327 companies traded, the share prices of 22 companies increased, while those of 222 companies declined.

The overall market remained volatile, with no groups seeing an increase in share prices.

Among the 13 groups, none saw an uptick in share prices. The hotel and tourism sector experienced the most significant drop, falling by 2.67 percent to 6,712.35 points.

Other sectors also saw declines: commercial banks decreased by 2.28 percent, development banks by 1.87 percent, finance by 2.27 percent, hydro by 2.44 percent, investment by 0.34 percent, life insurance by 2.49 percent, manufacturing and processing by 1.25 percent, microfinance by 2.33 percent, mutual funds by 0.94 percent, non-life insurance by 2.45 percent, other groups by 1.83 percent, and trading by 0.35 percent.

Throughout the day, a total of 111,986 shares were traded.
