Kathmandu Mayor Balen advises PM Oli to enhance workers’ political knowledge

KATHMANDU: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolis Balen Shah has advised Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to provide general knowledge to his workers and involve them more actively in politics.

This suggestion comes in the wake of a dispute between Balen and UML activists over a case involving domestic violence against minors.

UML-turned-state MP Rekha Sharma had recommended this approach to Prime Minister Oli in a post on Monday.

In response, Balen Shah stated: “Currently, half of the Supreme Court’s judgment has been misconstrued to create confusion. The case at hand is not between Rekha Kumari and the KMC. It was actually the girl’s father who filed a writ claiming that his daughter was kidnapped and held captive by the city. This writ was dismissed by the court, which confirmed that the rescue operation conducted by the metropolis was appropriate.”

The Supreme Court has affirmed that children with biological parents have the right to live with them, and the Metropolis has ensured that the child’s upbringing, education, and health are managed so the parents can also have contact.

“Prime Minister Khadak Prasad Oli, you should provide general knowledge to your workers and engage them more meaningfully in politics. This will help in ensuring that when you are in a position to govern, you can do so more effectively, without relying solely on others’ guidance,” he stated.
