KATHMANDU: The Houston Police Department has identified 51-year-old Bobby Singh Shah as the individual arrested in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Nepali student Muna Pandey.
Shah was apprehended on Thursday night and is facing murder charges.
Earlier, the police had released CCTV footage showing a person leaving Muna Pandey’s apartment.
The Houston Police have confirmed that the individual in the footage is Shah, although the motive behind the murder has not yet been disclosed.
Shah was detained during a traffic stop on Wednesday night at 8 p.m., according to the police.
Muna Pandey was discovered dead from a gunshot wound in her apartment on West Airport Boulevard in Houston last Monday evening.
Local media reports said Pandey had been shot three times and was found lying in bed.
Pandey, who moved to the U.S. in 2021 to pursue graduate studies in nursing at Houston Community College, initially lived with a friend before securing her own apartment.
Her mother, Anita Pandey Adhikari, who resides in Nepal, wishes to travel to the U.S. for her daughter’s last rites but is facing financial difficulties.
To support these expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched with a goal of $50,000.
The campaign seeks donations to help cover the costs of bringing Anita to America for Muna’s funeral and other related expenses.
Anita, who has expressed profound grief over the loss of her only child, is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
