KATHMANDU: The Houston Police Department said that an arrest has been made related to the death of 21-year-old Muna Pandey.

A surveillance image of the suspect had been released by authorities, though it is not yet confirmed if this individual is the one arrested on Wednesday.

Additional details about the arrest have not been provided, local media reports said.

The police are still investigating and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

According to media reports, a man was seen on surveillance footage leaving an apartment two days before 21-year-old Muna Pandey, a college student from Nepal, was found shot to death in her southwest Houston residence on Monday evening.

Pandey, who was studying nursing and working as a sales representative, was found with gunshot wounds in her apartment at The Reserve, located at 6363 W Airport Boulevard, around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The discovery followed an anonymous tip received by the complex staff, who then alerted authorities.

Those who knew Pandey described her as kind, intelligent, and a treasured friend.

Her death has profoundly affected the Nepalese community in Houston, which has been in contact with her mother abroad.

Bertin Alvarado, a friend of Pandey, expressed his grief and disbelief, saying, “It’s shocking when you think it could be one of your friends.”

Alvarado, along with members of the Nepalese Association of Houston, including President Rabin Shrestha, have called for justice. Shrestha highlighted Pandey’s potential and her role as a valued community member, noting that she lived alone and had limited family nearby.

Police have released a photo of an unidentified man seen exiting Pandey’s apartment two days before her body was discovered.
