Lawmaker KC opposes time limit on corruption investigations

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC has argued for the introduction of both an elected Prime Minister and a Constitutional Prime Minister to ensure political stability in Nepal.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, KC suggested that such provisions could help alleviate the pressure on political parties to form and maintain government coalitions and could address frequent government changes at the provincial level.

KC emphasized that while the Constitution is amendable, changes should be made through broad consensus, ensuring that its inclusive nature is preserved.

He also called for the government to reconsider a proposed provision in the Bill to amend the Prevention of the Corruption Act-2059 BS (2002), which suggests a five-year time limit for corruption investigations.

KC argued that this provision could undermine good governance and urged the government to withdraw it.

Additionally, KC expressed concerns about increasing anarchy in the country and stressed the State’s responsibility to address the issues faced by youth growing up in the digital age.
