PHC receives complaints against proposed ambassadors

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has received nine complaints concerning the 17 proposed ambassadors to various countries.

This information was disclosed during today’s committee meeting.

Committee President Ishwori Devi Neupane announced that hearings on the complaints are scheduled to begin on August 30.

“Nine complaints have been filed against the 17 ambassadorial nominees proposed by the government. We will summon the complainants to the Committee to clarify the nature and rationale of their complaints,” Neupane stated.

Neupane also mentioned that the schedule has been revised and approved in accordance with Section 15 of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee Procedure regarding the hearing process and discussions with the proposed ambassadors.

During the meeting, lawmakers voiced concerns about the inclusivity of the ambassadorial appointments.

Lawmakers including Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Janardan Sharma, Prakash Adhikari, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Leelanath Shrestha, Ishwori Gharti, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, and Bhagawati Neupane, among others, questioned the government’s failure to ensure representation from Dalit, Madhesh, and Muslim communities in the list of nominees.
