Spanish tourists go missing while hiking in Annapurna Circuit

KATHMANDU: Two Spanish tourists, Erik Kasanovas and Molass Missy, have gone missing while hiking in the Ghorepani area, a popular destination on the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal.

Bharatman Gurung, Spokesperson for the Annapurna Rural Municipality, stated that the two tourists disappeared while traveling from Tikhedhunga in Kaski to Ghorepani.

On Sunday evening, two abandoned bags belonging to the tourists were found near the Bhurungdi River bridge.

Despite an extensive search on Monday, their whereabouts remain unknown.

Authorities suspect that the tourists may have been swept away by the river.

Gurung stated that the tourists had registered their trek to Ghorepani at the ECAP check post in Birethanti.

Yam Bahadur Gurung, head of the ACAP Virethanti Checkpost, confirmed that they had registered their names on Sunday morning.

It is believed that they may have fallen into the river while taking photographs or placing a bag on the road.

Spokesman Gurung noted that the location where the tourists’ bags were found is picturesque, and it is possible they fell into the river while trying to capture the scene.

During the search involving police, public representatives, and local residents, two sticks were discovered but no other clues were found.

A team with divers is scheduled to search the river on Tuesday.
