Home Minister directs IGP to investigate Gathaghar accident

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has instructed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Kunwar to conduct a thorough investigation into the vehicle accident that occurred at Gathaghar in Bhaktapur on Thursday.

Home Minister Lekhak emphasized the need for a serious inquiry into the cause of the accident.

Expressing his concern, Minister Lekhak stated, “We need to understand what happened in the Gathaghar accident. Who is responsible for this tragic event? Is there any fault on the part of our police force? This matter requires a serious investigation.”

On Thursday afternoon, a scooter driver died on the spot after being struck by a truck near Gathaghar Chowk in Bhaktapur.

The victim, identified as Uttam Koirala from Okhaldhunga, was killed when truck Na. 6 Kha 2173 hit the scooter (Ba 39 Pa 8944).

Although the truck driver fled the scene, he was apprehended later that evening by the New Baneshwar Circle Tinkune of Kathmandu and was subsequently handed over to the Thimi Police for further proceedings.
