Health Ministry intensifies efforts to control cholera and dengue outbreaks

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population has initiated measures to prevent and control the spread of cholera and dengue infections, which have been reported in various parts of the country.

In response to the rising number of cases, Health Minister Pradip Paudel instructed relevant authorities to take immediate and effective actions.

Following his directives, the Ministry has implemented both short-term and long-term strategies to address the situation.

According to the Ministry, Rapid Response Teams, led by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, are actively working in collaboration with provincial and local authorities in affected areas.

These teams are identifying individuals who have been in direct contact with infected patients and monitoring them for symptoms, which is expected to help contain the spread of cholera.

Minister Paudel’s Secretariat also reported that discussions have been held with local stakeholders to improve the quality of drinking water, aiming to control water-borne diseases.

The Ministry has outlined plans to enhance food quality monitoring at the central, provincial, and local levels to prevent further outbreaks.

Additionally, preparations are underway to develop the National Cholera Control and Prevention Plan for 2024-2030.
