Prachanda rules out party split and leadership changes

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Maoist Center, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has dismissed concerns about a possible split within the party.

Speaking to the media after a Standing Committee meeting in Parisdanda in Koteswor on Monday, Prachanda emphasized that there is no risk of a party division.

When questioned about Deputy General Secretary Janardhan Sharma’s suggestion that Prachanda should step down from his leadership role, Prachanda clarified that the Maoist party operates without a top-down approach and that all members move forward collectively.

“A proposal to transfer leadership was discussed at the party meeting. What’s your take on it?” reporters asked Prachanda.

He responded, “Nothing significant happens within our party that would suggest a split. We progress together, and if you’re not anxious, there’s nothing to worry about.”

Deputy General Secretary Sharma had previously submitted a document proposing that Prachanda relinquish leadership and assume a more symbolic role.

Sharma argued that Prachanda was a key factor in the party’s current weak state and suggested that it was time for him to offer an alternative leadership model.

Sharma’s document included several questions directed at Prachanda, highlighting his role in the party’s challenges and advocating for a change in leadership structure.
