NC leader Acharya calls for investigation into Giribandhu Tea Estate and fake Bhutanese refugee scam

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Madhu Acharya has demanded formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe various high-profile scandals, including the fake Bhutanese refugee case, the gold scandal, and the Giribandhu Tea Estate.

NC central member Acharya stressed the need to combat corruption and ensure good governance during a meeting of the party’s central working committee on Monday.

Acharya advocated for the formation of this committee to thoroughly investigate the Yeti and Omni scandals, the Giribandhu Tea Estate scandal, the fake Bhutanese refugee case, and the gold scandal.

He stressed the importance of taking strict action against those involved.

He also called for the creation of a powerful task force to address the seven points agreed upon between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

This task force would facilitate necessary discussions both within and outside the party, help form the party’s stance, and offer recommendations to the party leadership, he stated.

Acharya further highlighted the need to prioritize drafting a Lokpal Bill that would provide punitive, preventive, and promotional powers to investigate and address policy corruption and abuse of authority.
