JANAKPURDHAM: The federal government has expanded the Food and Nutrition Security Program to include four additional local levels in Madhes Province, with support from the World Bank.

This extension aims to aid flood-affected communities, particularly targeting indigent and underprivileged farmers.

Initially, the program was being implemented in four districts of the province. It has now been extended to the flood-hit rural municipalities of Dhanusha and Mahottari districts.

Specifically, the program will cover Samsi and Sonama in Mahottari, as well as Bateshwar and Janaknandani in Dhanusha.

According to Yugal Kishor Tiwari, Senior Agriculture Development Officer at the Food and Nutrition Security Improvement Program Cluster Unit, the programme has already commenced in these newly selected rural municipalities as part of its second phase.

Previously, it was implemented in Mukhiyapatti Musarniya and Dhanauji of Dhanusha, and Pipara and Ekdara municipalities in Mahottari during the first phase.

The program is also underway in Saptari and Siraha districts within the province.

Tiwari noted that the federal government has launched the program with technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization and financial backing from the Global Agriculture Food Security Program, under the oversight of the World Bank.
