Turkish Airlines plane ‘overshoots’ landing in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A Turkish Airlines plane arriving from Istanbul overshot the runway while attempting to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.

Flight radar data indicated that the aircraft, originally scheduled to land at 6:10 am, touched down 20 minutes later than planned following the overshoot.

Airport officials attributed the incident to a ‘missed approach,’ while an air traffic controller (ATC) cited an ‘unstable approach’ as the primary cause of the overshoot.

In aviation, “overshoot” refers to a situation where an aircraft lands beyond the intended point on the runway or misses the runway.

This can occur for various reasons, including poor weather conditions, pilot error, or problems with the aircraft’s landing gear or braking systems.
