Report on TRC to be submitted to PM, top leaders

KATHMANDU: The report on the transitional justice bill (TJ) will be submitted to Prime Minister KP Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda today.

The task force responsible for the report includes Nepali Congress leader and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, Maoist Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma, and CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula.

They have been working on a solution for conflict-related violence incidents, following the peace agreement signed between the government and the Maoists eighteen years ago.

Bartaula, a member of the task force, has confirmed that the report, which details the agreed-upon method for addressing these incidents, is ready for submission.

The task force reached a consensus on the transitional justice issues and has since discussed the report’s contents.

Bartaula indicated that the report would be presented to the three top leaders today (Wednesday).

He noted that once the bill concerning the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is agreed upon, it is expected to pass in the current session of the House of Representatives.

Bartaula mentioned that the report incorporates national and international laws and precedents.

After the report is reviewed and agreed upon by the top leaders, it will be submitted to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

Bartaula also stated that most matters have been settled and that the report will be shared to gather opinions and suggestions before final submission.
