Gurung and Karki appointed to NEA operating committee

KATHMANDU: Mahendra Bahadur Gurung and Devendra Karki have been appointed as members of the operating committee of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resource, and Irrigation made the appointments on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the government relieved Kapil Acharya and Bhakta Bahadur Pun from their positions on the committee.

Acharya and Pun had submitted a ‘note of dissent’ to the Ministry, insisting that power supply should not be connected to industries until they cleared their outstanding dues.

Following their dissent, the Ministry sought clarification from Acharya and Pun, accusing them of not supporting the implementation of government and Electricity Regulatory Commission directives regarding dedicated and trunk line disputes.

The clarifications provided by Acharya and Pun were deemed unsatisfactory, leading to their dismissal.

Reports also suggest that the government is considering removing Kul Man Ghising from his position as the Managing Director of NEA as the dedicated and trunk line disputes deepens.
