KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on the Swiss government to assist in attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) to support Nepal’s economic development and prosperity.

During a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Daniel Meuli at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, PM Oli emphasized the role of foreign aid as a catalyst for the country’s development.

Prime Minister Oli highlighted the efforts of the Nepalese government to make state structures more accountable to the public and strengthen democracy.

He noted that Nepal has been inspired by Switzerland’s practices in developing an inclusive democratic structure.

The Prime Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to implementing necessary reforms to boost FDI.

He mentioned the enthusiastic participation of representatives from 50 countries in the recently held Nepal Investment Summit, showcasing the country’s growing appeal for investment.

Oli further expressed hopes for increased support from development partners, as Nepal aims to graduate from a least developed country to a developing country by 2026, and to achieve middle-income country status by 2030.

He thanked the Swiss government for its ongoing support in Nepal’s development efforts, COVID-19 prevention, and the peace process.

In response, Ambassador Meuli congratulated Prime Minister Oli on his successful tenure and assured continued collaboration and cooperation between Switzerland and Nepal.
