172 fatalities in Sudurpaschim Province road accidents last year



ATTARIYA: A total of 172 people lost their lives in road accidents in Sudurpaschim Province during the fiscal year 2023/24.

According to the Nepal Police’s Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office in Attariya, the fatalities included 137 males, 23 females, seven boys, and five girls.

DSP Anil Kumar Uprety, spokesperson for the Office, reported that 536 individuals were injured in 309 road accidents during the same period.

The highest number of accidents involved motorcycles, with 207 incidents, followed by 40 accidents involving jeeps/cars, 24 involving buses, 19 involving trucks and tankers, 17 involving tempos, nine involving tippers, seven involving microbuses, three involving dozers, and other types of vehicles.

To address road safety concerns, the Office implemented various awareness campaigns.

DSP Uprety noted that 6,626 awareness programs and campaigns were conducted last fiscal year, benefiting 389,266 people.

Additionally, traffic police took action against 73,479 drivers for violating traffic rules, collecting over Rs 48.8 million in fines.

In comparison, the previous fiscal year saw 177 fatalities and 473 injuries from 255 road accidents.
