KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into documents related to financial irregularities and scams, such as the fake Bhutanese refugees case and the Giribandhu Tea Estate scandal.

Speaking at an event marking the 27th general assembly of the Human Rights and Peace Society, Kathmandu district chapter, held in Jorpati today, Sharma highlighted the importance of studying these documents in accordance with the law.

Sharma mentioned that the seven-point agreement between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN UML aims to eradicate irregularities.

He stressed that effective implementation of the agreement would promote good governance and accountability, ensuring that individuals involved in corruption are held accountable regardless of their faith or position.

He advocated for independent investigations that respect legal provisions and reiterated the importance of following the rule of law during such investigations.

Sharma also criticized any political party that protects those involved in corruption.

During the event, other speakers underscored the need for collective efforts to eliminate corruption and expressed concern that fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution are not being fully realized.
