JANAKPUR: A total of 28 workers from Dhanusha and Siraha districts, who were held hostage in Jammu and Kashmir, India, have been rescued.
The workers had gone there for employment.
Assistant Chief District Officer of Dhanusha, Bishnu Prasad Bhusal, informed that 21 people from Siraha and seven from Dhanusha were successfully brought back home.
According to him, the workers had been held hostage in Shreenagar, Kashmir, for the past five months.
The rescue operation was carried out through the initiative of the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizen, with support from the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and an Indian organization.
The rescued workers were handed over to the human trafficking control committee in both districts.
It was reported that the workers had traveled to India through brokers and had been out of contact for the past five months.
