KATHMANDU: A taskforce on transitional justice convened at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar today reached a consensus in principle on the transitional justice bill.
Deputy General Secretary of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Janardan Sharma, who is also a taskforce member, confirmed the consensus to the media after the meeting.
He stated, “We have reached a consensus in principle on the transitional justice bill. We will engage with stakeholders on Monday to discuss the issue further. An agreement has been made to finalize the bill through a taskforce meeting.”
Chief Whip of CPN (UML), Mahesh Bartaula, noted that the meeting decided to finalize the bill following stakeholder feedback on Monday.
He added that the bill will be shaped according to victim rights, Supreme Court verdicts, and international laws.
The final report will be presented to top leaders, including the Prime Minister, after the next meeting of the taskforce.
The taskforce includes Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak from the Nepali Congress, Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula from CPN (UML), and Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma from CPN (Maoist Centre).
