North Korea earns $2 billion through cyber hacking: Report

WASHINGTON: North Korea has earned around $2 billion dollars through what has been said ‘large-scale cyber-attacks’ to help fund its government’s weapons programs, a United Nations (UN) panel has alleged in a report.

The report that has been submitted to the UN North Korea sanctions committee has accused North Korea of using its hackers to conduct what has been said ‘forced illegal transfers of funds’ from banks and financial institutions as well as cryptocurrency exchanges to created income to avoid international sanctions.

According to investigators, such activities might help fund North Korea’s nuclear weapons.

Observers have said that North Korea has invested lots of resources to develop a sophisticated range of cyber capabilities along with a robust network of hackers. (Agencies)
