PM Oli taking vote of confidence today

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli is taking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) today (Sunday).

The HoR meeting is scheduled for 1:00 pm.

The Constitution of Nepal mandates that a Prime Minister appointed with the support of two or more political parties must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment.

The newly appointed PM is taking the trust vote as per Article 76(4) of the constitution.

On July 14, President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(2) of the constitution.

Oli was appointed with the backing of the Nepali Congress after the CPN-UML, led by Oli.

PM Oli has already sent a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat to include the proposal seeking a vote of confidence in the meeting agenda.

Oli, 73, succeeded Maoist Centre Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the 45th Prime Minister of the country.

In the trust motion, PM Oli is likely to garner votes from his own party (UML), the Nepali Congress, and other fringe parties.
