Women’s Asia Cup: Nepal to clash with UAE today

KATHMANDU: The ACC Women’s Asia Cup cricket tournament is kicking off today. The first day features thrilling matches in Group ‘A’.

Nepal faces UAE in the tournament opener in Sri Lanka, starting at 2:15 pm Nepali time at Dambulla ground.

Later today, India squares off against Pakistan in the second match at 7:15 pm, also at Dambulla.

Nepal earned its spot from the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in Malaysia.

The tournament, running from July 18 to 28, includes eight teams divided into two groups.

In Group ‘A’, Nepal competes with UAE, India, and Pakistan, while Group ‘B’ comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand.

The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals, with the final set for July 28.

Indu Barma leads Nepal’s squad, featuring former captain Rubina Chhetri, along with Sita Ranamagar, Bindu Rawal, Kabita Kunwar, Puja Mahato, Kabita Joshi, Samjhana Khadka, Kajol Shrestha, Sabnam Rai, Rajmati Airee, Mamata Chaudhary, Kritika Marasini, Roma Thapa, and Dolly Bhatt.

Nepal’s Asia Cup Campaign

Nepal kicks off their campaign against UAE today and faces Pakistan on July 21, followed by a clash with arch-rivals India on July 23, all matches scheduled in Dambulla.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, Nepal played practice matches in Sri Lanka, winning one out of three matches.

They previously appeared in the 2012 tournament held in China and the 2016 event in Thailand.
