PM Oli to seek vote of confidence on Sunday

Prime Minister KP Oli will seek a vote of confidence this coming Sunday. Oli will seek a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives on July 21, Sunday, according to UML Whip Mahesh Bartaula. On the same day, a hearing is scheduled at the Supreme Court regarding the writ petition filed against Oli’s appointment as Prime Minister.

President appoints Senior Advocate Ramesh Badal as Attorney General

Senior Advocate Ramesh Badal has been appointed as the Attorney General by President Ramchandra Paudel on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli on Wednesday. The Attorney General serves as the chief legal advisor to the government. The constitutional provision allows the President to appoint the Attorney General on the Prime Minister’s recommendation.

NEPSE soars by 54 points, exceeds 12 billion in turnover

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw a significant surge on Wednesday, with the index rising by 54 points. This increase reflects a broader trend of growth, as trading volumes also saw a substantial boost, exceeding Rs 12 billion in a single day. The NEPSE index climbed by 2.33 percent, reaching 2364.63 points.

Finance Minister Poudel assures prompt resolution for construction sector complaints

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel assured construction entrepreneurs today that their grievances regarding outstanding payments from the government will be addressed promptly. In a meeting with the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) at his Singha Durbar office, Minister Poudel committed to resolving issues related to overdue payments and vowed there would be no further complaints from contractors.

Locals set fire to railway survey team’s vehicle in Bharatpur

Local residents set fire to a railway survey team’s vehicle in Bharatpur on Wednesday, protesting against the ongoing railway survey in the area. The vehicle belonging to RH Consultancy, which arrived in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-7 for the survey, was seized and burned in front of police. Firefighters from the Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality extinguished the flames.

Embassy in Dhaka advises Nepali students to stay indoors amid protests

The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka has advised Nepali students in Bangladesh to stay indoors due to escalating violence related to anti-reservation protests. In a statement released on Wednesday, the embassy urged Nepali students to avoid leaving their current locations unless absolutely necessary. The embassy also requested that, should college administrations direct students to relocate to safer places or if current accommodations become unsafe, students should contact the embassy for assistance.

PM Oli pledges to eradicate street dependency in the country

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to making Nepal a country free of street-dependent individuals by 2025. During a meeting with representatives of Manavsewa Ashram at his official residence in Baluwatar, PM Oli highlighted that the first meeting of the new council of ministers had set a target to eliminate street dependency by mid-July 2025. PM Oli expressed the government’s support for the initiative, emphasizing the need to address the various reasons that lead individuals to live on the streets. He assured that necessary actions would be taken to support this campaign.

New Road: Pavement expansion begins

Following an order from the Patan High Court, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has commenced the expansion of the footpath in New Road. The expansion work began on Wednesday morning, covering the stretch from Juddha Shalik to Indra Chowk. Previously halted by the Divisional Road Office, the KMC sought intervention from the High Court.

Simaltal landslide: Task force begins work

A task force formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to study the incident of the disappearance of two buses and passengers in the Trishuli river has started working as per the given mandate. The ladnslide that occurred in Chitwan metropolis-29, Simaltal of Chitwan on last Friday had swept away the two passenger-ferrying buses. Assuming the office, newly-appointed Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak had formed a task force under the leadership of Joint Secretary of the Ministry Chhabi Rial to study the incident and submit a report.

Road accidents claim 115 lives in Chitwan over past year

In Chitwan, a staggering toll of 115 lives lost to road accidents has been recorded over the fiscal year spanning mid-July 2023 to mid-July 2024. The district’s highways saw a disproportionately higher number of accidents and fatalities compared to inner roads. Of the deceased, 92 were men, 19 women, and tragically, four were children. During this period, 445 vehicles were involved in accidents, resulting in injuries to 832 individuals.

30 cases involving Ncell await Supreme Court decision

The Supreme Court (SC) has 30 pending cases related to telecommunications giant Ncell. These cases, spanning various legal disputes involving the company over the past five years, await resolution in Nepal’s highest court. Most of these pending cases have yet to be reviewed, indicating a lack of prioritization for matters concerning a company that annually handles billions of rupees in business.
