Oli Cabinet sans Dalit representation, women get two seats

KATHMANDU: In his third tenure as Prime Minister, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has missed the chance to make his cabinet all-inclusive, as it lacks Dalit representation.

Despite expectations, neither UML’s Chhabilal Bishwakarma nor Nepali Congress lawmaker Jeevan Pariyar could make a place in the final list of ministers.

The UML Chairman has appointed Bidya Bhattarai, a directly elected MP from Kaski, and Arzu Rana Deuba, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s wife and an MP elected from the proportional representation system, as ministers in his cabinet. Bhattarai has been appointed Minister of Education, and Deuba as Minister for Foreign Affairs; both represent the Khas-Arya community.

Oli has been criticized for failing to make his cabinet inclusive, particularly for not including Dalit ministers.
