Fringe parties await decision from NC, UML on joining govt

KATHMANDU: Following CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli’s appointment as Prime Minister on Sunday, backed by the Nepali Congress (NC), fringe political parties in parliament await decisions from the major ruling parties – NC and UML.

Although these parties hold a comfortable majority, leaders from NC and UML have indicated inclusivity towards smaller factions.

While some small parties have already pledged support to Oli’s government, others are yet to confirm their participation.

The Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), and Nagarik Unmukti Party are likely candidates for government roles, pending formal announcements from the ruling alliance.

Janamat Party spokesperson Dr. Sharad Singh Yadav stated their party adopts a wait-and-see approach, planning discussions post-ministerial decisions.

LSP’s chief whip Ram Prakash Chaudhary mentioned their party’s decision pending further consultations with ruling factions.

LSP recently opted to join the government, with Chairman Mahanta Thakur tasked to nominate their representative.

Leaders of Nagarik Unmukti Party expressed optimism about government participation, while JSP’s general secretary Mohammad Istiyak Rayi mentioned ongoing internal deliberations regarding their involvement in the new administration.
