We are very close to Nirmala Panta’s killer: Home Minister Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane announced on Sunday that the government is very close to identifying the murderer of Nirmala Panta.

As he bids farewell after handling the Ministry of Home Affairs for nearly four months in his second term, Lamichhane asserted that they are extremely close to finding the perpetrator in the rape and murder case of the teenager from Kanchanpur’s Ultakham.

Despite being frequently questioned about the case, Lamichhane stated that he refrained from making premature comments until they had concrete results.

“We are extremely close to finding the murderer of Nirmala Panta. Very close,” he said. “I have been asked about this repeatedly, but I chose not to say anything until we had results. The security agencies know how close we are.”

The rape and murder of Nirmala Panta is one of Nepal’s most infamous crimes.

The 13-year-old girl from Bhimdatta Municipality-16, Ultakham, Kanchanpur, was raped and murdered.

She went missing from her friend’s house in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, on the 26th of July, 2018, and her body was found the next day in a local sugarcane field.
