KATHMANDU: KP Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML, is set to become Prime Minister today.

President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to appoint Oli to the role on Sunday.

The process of appointment and swearing-in of the Prime Minister will take place today after the deadline set by the President for the formation of the new government comes to an end, said Kiran Pokharel, the Press Advisor of the President.

President Paudel had, in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, called on parties on Friday to submit their stake on the new government leadership by 5:00 pm today.

However, the Office of the President has confirmed that Oli’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Monday evening.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, he will assume the responsibilities of the Prime Minister.

Oli lodged his claim for the Prime Minister’s position on Friday evening, accompanied by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, at Sheetal Niwas.

The claim, endorsed by 166 MPs from UML and NC, was submitted to the President’s office.
