Mid-Hill highway obstructed

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall over the past few days has triggered a landslide, causing an obstruction on the Mid-Hill Highway.

The landslide at Bayaldanda in Kathekhola Rural Municipality has blocked the highway, a national pride project, disrupting vehicular movement to and from Purba Rukum, Paschim Rukum, and Jajarkot districts, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bijay Yadav.

Additionally, Baglung Bazaar has been waterlogged due to heavy rains since Wednesday evening.

Floodwaters from the highway have inundated the marketplace, causing significant losses.

The breached retention wall of a dumping site has littered the Kaligandaki corridor, spreading a horrible stench.

The landfill, located on the bank of Kathekhola Stream, had its wall damaged by the floods. Despite efforts to clear the garbage from the road, vehicular movement has yet to be normalized.

The retention wall was compromised due to the heavy pile of rain-soaked garbage.

Residents are demanding that garbage management be moved further from Baglung Bazaar.

Driver Bir Bahadur Pun expressed frustration, stating that traveling through the reeking roads and bazaar is sickening.

He accused the municipality of neglecting the health of thousands of passengers and local residents.
