KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee on cooperative savings misuse has decided to hold discussions with the victims.

Committee coordinator Surya Thapa informed that the committee, in its meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday, decided to discuss the issues faced by the victims due to problems in the cooperative sector.

Thapa mentioned that the committee will meet with the coordinators and representative victims from various committees formed in the name of cooperative victims on Wednesday at Singha Durbar.

He emphasized that the victims’ suggestions would be crucial for organizing the cooperative sector and reaching factual evidence.

The committee also held a collective discussion with both former and current registrars of the Cooperative Department.

During the discussion, Thapa stated that the lack of a Cooperative Credit Information Center and the absence of savings and loan limits were highlighted as causes of the cooperative sector’s problems.

Additionally, it was noted that the mismanagement of the cooperative sector and the neglect by the state due to the absence of proper laws and regulations led to the misuse of savers’ funds.
