Flood sweeps away culvert, halting transport along Prithvi Highway

KATHMANDU: A culvert at Sheratar of Shuklagandaki-7 on the Prithvi Highway was swept away by a flood, disrupting traffic.

The flood, caused by incessant rainfall since Friday night, carried away the drain, leading to a complete halt in vehicular movement, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Dipak Kumar Ray.

Hundreds of vehicles operate along this highway daily.

A police team was dispatched to the site immediately after receiving information about the road disconnection, Ray added. It will take time to resume traffic.

In addition, a landslide at Mauriodhar of Myagde Rural Municipality-6 has blocked the road.

DSP Ray mentioned that it is difficult to clear the mudflow until the rain stops.

“The landslide is continuous, and the ongoing rainfall poses a threat,” he shared.

The district police have requested drivers and others concerned to maintain alertness on the highway.
