NC to support Madhes Chief Minister Singh in confidence vote



DHANUSHA: The Nepali Congress (NC) provincial lawmakers have decided to support Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh in the upcoming confidence vote.

NC Madhes Province legislator Sanjay Kumar Mahato confirmed that they have decided to back Chief Minister Singh from the Janamat Party.

A parliamentary party meeting will be held at the provincial party office in Janakpur to discuss the confidence vote and other technical matters.

The Nepali Congress has 22 provincial lawmakers in Madhes.

Previously, the CPN-UML parliamentary party meeting on Friday also decided to support Chief Minister Singh.

The UML has 25 lawmakers in Madhes Province.

Bharat Prasad Sah, leader of the CPN-Maoist Center) Madhes Province parliamentary party, stated that the Janamat-led government will continue and that the Maoist Center will support the confidence vote.

Chief Minister Singh is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Saturday.

The Madhes Provincial Assembly has 107 members. Singh, from the Janamat Party, formed the provincial government on June 8.

Chief Minister Singh is set to receive support from 25 UML lawmakers, 22 from the Nepali Congress, 13 from the Janamat Party, 9 from the CPN (Maoist Center), 7 from the CPN (Unified Socialist), and 1 each from the Nepal Federal Socialist Party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

Opposing him are 19 lawmakers from the Janata Samajbadi Party, 8 from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and 1 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Chief Minister Singh needs 53 votes to secure the confidence of the Provincial Assembly.
