KATHMANDU: The Central Committee meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which started at 8:30 am on Wednesday at the central office in Banasthali, continues amidst disputes.

Chairman Rabi Lamichhane presided over the meeting and sought the opinions of participating leaders on whether to broadcast the meeting live, as demanded by General Secretary Mukul Dhakal.

Most leaders expressed that making the internal discussions public would be strategically and diplomatically inappropriate for the party.

Following this, Chairman Lamichhane put General Secretary Dhakal’s proposal for live broadcasting to a vote.

In the absence of Lamichhane and Dhakal, 100 percent of the members voted against live broadcasting.

Accordingly, Chairman Lamichhane immediately announced the decision not to broadcast the meeting live.

General Secretary Dhakal disagreed with the decision and, in protest, attended the meeting with a mask and tape over his mouth.

Members objected to Dhakal’s actions, stating that his behavior was against the procedures, processes, and discipline of the party.

Chairman Lamichhane then adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes.

After agreeing to make Dhakal’s activities a disciplinary matter for further review by the committee, Chairman Lamichhane resumed the meeting.

This incident, combined with previous accusations against Dhakal for making inappropriate statements in the media, has led to the decision to take further action against him.

Members agreed to make the entire meeting process public to inform party members and the general public about internal democracy.

Chairman Lamichhane allotted time for General Secretary Dhakal to present the review report of his tour. However, Dhakal refused to present it.

In Dhakal’s absence, Joint General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti presented the 32-page report, taking 1 hour and 35 minutes to read.

The meeting continues to discuss Dhakal’s report, with most members having already expressed their opinions.
