KATHMANDU: Dr. Mukul Dhakal, General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has demanded a specific ‘timeline’ from Chairman Rabi Lamichhane for fulfilling his commitments.

During the party’s central committee meeting that convened on Wednesday, Dhakal stressed Lamichhane’s responsibilities as both Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister to fulfill the promises he has made.

“I am not interested in others’ remarks; I am concerned with yours,” Dhakal asserted in a written report presented at the meeting. “Why did you make promises yesterday? When do you plan to fulfill them? I need a timeframe. I demand tangible results,” Dhakal emphasized.

Additionally, Dhakal urged Chairman Lamichhane to maintain a comprehensive record of all his statements and be prepared to be held accountable for them.

“Mr. Chairman, it is imperative that you document all your promises and deliver on them. This includes every statement you have made since entering politics,” Dhakal insisted. “Let us establish a sub-committee within this central committee to oversee the tracking of these commitments.”

Furthermore, Dhakal advised Lamichhane to refrain from making statements until concrete actions are taken in the days ahead.

“I urge you to speak only after ensuring actions in the forthcoming days,” Dhakal remarked.

Dhakal also metaphorically cautioned against associating with negative influences, stating, “If you fly with flies, you’ll end up in garbage.”

He expressed a preference for aligning with positive influences, saying, “I wish to soar with bees, not flies. Let’s enrich our people with positivity.”

Earlier, the meeting witnessed a pivotal moment as Dr. Dhakal’s month-long effort culminated in a report presented at the central committee meeting.

Initially declining to present the report, citing violations of his freedom of expression during the meeting at the party’s central office, General Secretary Dhakal was replaced by Joint General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti, who took charge of delivering the extensive 32-page document.

The report highlighted concerns about the party’s shrinking support base and its prospects for attaining national party status in upcoming elections.

According to RSP leader and parliamentarian Manish Jha, Dhakal advocated for the report to be aired live on Wednesday.

However, despite initial backing from party heavyweights like RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, Vice Chairman Dol Prasad Aryal, and Dr. Swarnim Wagle, alongside 20 central members, consensus eventually turned against the live broadcast.

Jha clarified, “Not a single person, except Dr. Dhakal, supported the idea. We refrained from live streaming due to widespread concerns about potential sensitivities and political implications.”

Following Dhakal’s decision to withhold a 6-page political development proposal during the meeting, he opted to release it to the media after the meeting concluded.
