KATHMANDU: England received a dramatic late boost with Jude Bellingham’s stunning injury-time goal, securing a 2-1 victory over Slovakia at Euro 2024.
Initially trailing to Ivan Schranz’s first-half strike, England seemed destined for elimination in the round of 16.
However, Bellingham’s spectacular bicycle kick in the 95th minute leveled the score, forcing the match into extra time.
Shortly thereafter, Harry Kane completed the comeback with another goal, rescuing England from what could have been a humiliating defeat.
Next, the Three Lions will face Switzerland in the quarterfinals on July 6, needing a significant improvement to advance further in the tournament.
In another match on Sunday, Spain overturned a deficit to beat Georgia 4-1, setting up a potentially thrilling quarterfinal clash against hosts Germany.
Georgia, making their debut in the knockout stage of a major international tournament, initially took the lead through Robin Le Normand’s own goal, but Spain eventually secured a comfortable victory with goals from Rodri, Fabián Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo.
