Gandaki Province lawmaker Phanindra Devkota to be appointed minister today

KATHMANDU: Phanindra Devkota, a lawmaker from the Nepal Samajbadi Party, is being appointed as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Drinking Water in Gandaki Province today.

Devkota made a comeback to the Gandaki Provincial Assembly on Friday after winning a case in the Supreme Court, which ruled in his favor and dismissed the action against him.

According to sources, Chief Minister Surendra Pandey is set to appoint Devkota to his new ministerial role.

Earlier, Devkota challenged the decision of the CPN (Maoist Center) to take action against him at the Supreme Court, filing a writ petition claiming the decision was unconstitutional.

Despite instructions from the Maoist parliamentary party, Devkota had supported CM Pandey of the Nepali Congress (NC) with his vote of confidence.

Following this move, the Maoist Center took action against him, relieving him of his MP status.
