KATHMANDU: The 10th National Convention of Unified Socialist Party is commencing today.

Party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal is slated to inaugurate the program at Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

The party has said that a rally will be held from Bhrikutimandap at 11 am preceding the convention’s commencement.

During the session scheduled until July 4, political reports, socialist programs, statute and organizational matters will be deliberated upon.

A total of 1,849 delegates from across the country are participating in the convention.

These delegates will elect the 299-member central committee and 21 office bearers.

The convention’s core management committee, led by Chairman Nepal, has confirmed that all necessary preparations for the convention are in their final stages.

Delegates from outside the Kathmandu Valley have reportedly arrived.

Accommodation for convention delegates has been arranged near the venue, while food arrangements have been made within the convention premises.

Having emerged from a split within the CPN-UML approximately three years ago, the party regards this upcoming convention as the 10th national convention, continuing the legacy of the UML.

Current Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, esteemed leader Jhalanath Khanal, and General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal are vying for leadership positions.
